Rhian Tracey is the author of When Isla Meets Luke Meets Isla and Isla and Luke: Make or Break?
Rhian Tracey has a BA in English Literature from Aberystwyth University and a PGCE in English and Drama Teaching from Cheltenham and Gloucester University. She works as an English and
Drama teacher in Brackley. Rhian has written stories since she was five years old. She went to three different secondary schools as she moved quite a bit growing up and she wanted to write about how difficult it can be. She also wanted to read something like Isla and Luke when she was a teenager, an honest
account of growing up.
Rhian says: “I was born in Swansea in 1976. My first language was Welsh. My brother was born in 1980. We lived in Wales until I was 11, then we moved to Hereford in England, where I forgot how to speak Welsh. My love of drama and literature started very young. I was in the Junior
Operatic Society, amateur dramatic society, choirs, pantomimes, Eistedfodds, and concerts and my mam would buy me a book every two weeks and I would devour them instantly. I loved and admired Judy Blume, Paula Danziger and anything that related to me. In 1990 we moved again to Cirencester where we managed to
stay put for a while. I did my GCSEs and A Levels there and made a set of life-long friends—who may recognise themselves in Isla and Luke! I went to Aberystwyth University from 1994–1997 where I met my very best friend Sanna. University was an amazing experience—we were nearly chucked out of
our halls of residence. I taught in Birmingham for 2 years in an underprivileged school and immersed myself in putting on productions like Bugsy Malone and Oliver. I had a fantastic time and it was there that I wrote Isla and Luke in a rough version.”
“In 2000 I moved to Guernsey (ever the gypsy, never staying put). My school friends from Cirencester came to stay immediately and on a night out with them I met my future husband Christopher. By May 2001 we had moved again, this time to Brackley, where my parents lived.
I have now been teaching in Brackley for 2 years.” (Courtesy of Bloomsbury.com)
